Winter Blues

It's time to get some thoughts down here. After Christmas, photo shoots can slow down a bit for a photographer. Some people are struggling to get bills caught up and others are trying to fight the blues of winter. For a photographer it's time to get things in order. It's time to update the website, clean up our Pinterest and start getting our taxes in order. Some jobs are better than others. I am typing this while watching a whole lot more snow come down around me.

Winter

is

beautiful

Capture it in pictures

Winter is what you make it. If you can't get out and shoot, look out your windows and see the beauty there.

I have been busy doing a few shoots. I did a Valentine special and boy were the kids cute.

Children always do what they want to do. But that's what taking pictures is about. Capturing their personality in pictures.

What kid likes to sit still, smile and pose for the camera?

I also had the opportunity to get out side and take pictures of some of my favourite Jan Wan friends. So many of the people I have been taking pictures for have become like family to me.

There are so many parts to this business that I enjoy ..... I sometimes set up my studio and get interesting backdrops, other times I get to head to people's homes and take some pictures of them in their own environment. Your head has to work fast for that. You have a small window of time to find the best lighting and see what will work in the background. Clutter can be distracting, so you have to be very aware.

Indoors or out. Lighting is essential.

I just love working with children. They have so many expressions and capturing them always warms my heart.

The most interesting thing that has happened to me this month has been when I was asked to take pictures of a century old home in Avondale, Nova Scotia. The realtor asked me to go in and take just a couple of pictures but when I arrived I was amazed by the beauty of the home and I actually took over a hundred pictures, editing close to 50 and putting them on FB. Well the house pictures created such a stir and were quickly shared by thousands of people. Local radio stations caught wind of the real estate listing and so did the local newspapers and the images ended up going viral. The agent was approached by the Canadian Press, The Huffington Post and CBC to name just a few. It was fun to have a moment in the spotlight although the spotlight remained on the house at all times. I still got to enjoy it.
